Rotterdam Offshore Sailing Team Van Uden

About This Project

Van Uden flying kite

Gerd-Jan Poortman, the Dutch sailing legend who competed in three Volvo Ocean Races, has now started a new adventure in cooperation with Yacht Club “KR&ZV De Maas” in Rotterdam: The Rotterdam Offshore Sailing Team Van Uden. A youth academy for talented young sailors with Van Uden Holding as the main sponsor.

From the beginning, ROST Van Uden have been competing at the top of the fleet in a KER 46. They won the 2017 North Sea Regatta in ORC and IRC overall. Scored a second place in the RORC Cowes Dinard St Malo Race (in their 2nd offshore race) and finished 6th overall in IRC Zero of the 2017 Fastnet Race and in the top 20 of the IRC Overall class (400+ entries).

The old B&G H3000 Processor has been replaced by a SAILMON Model E4 Processor and the B&G mast displays by two SAILMON Model X Portrait Displays. Now, the SAILMON Model E4 Processor is the central processor in this mixed SAILMON / B&G configuration. Some of the B&G displays were still working fine, as well as most of the sensors, so there was no need to replace them. Using the SAILMON Model E4 Processor meant Team ROST avoided an unnecessary and serious extra investment. Expedition Sailing Software integrates seamlessly in the system in order to make all advanced numbers and graphics available to the navigator. The setup of the system is very easy using the icon-based SAILMON NAvDesk App running on a tablet.

Onboard Configuration:
– 1x SAILMON Model E4 Processor (replacing B&G H3000)
– 2x SAILMON Model VII Portrait display (replacing B&G displays)
– 1x SailEthernet box
– 1x Loadcell box
– 2x Linear box
– 1x Wind box
– NMEA2000 backbone
