Launched in 2015 The 30m ocean giant Ultimes trimaran MACIF was designed by VDLP and built by CDK Technologies. This new age giant trimaran is classed as an ‘Ultime’. Macif was built for the French sailing sensation François Gabart, to support his solo racing ambitions, with the main goal being to beat the current singlehanded non-stop round the world record which is currently held by fellow countryman Thomas Coville. To achieve these speeds MACIF has embraced the use of foiling wholeheartedly. Lateral foils are fitted to all three of her rudders and angled L-shaped retractable foils used in her floats. She has also been fitted with wave-piercing bows which stop her from being slowed down when the waters are rough. The MACIF has been built so that nearly all actions can be done from the safety of the elliptical cockpit, to ensure that you do not have to leave the shelter when travelling at 40 knots. MACIF has also been equipped with a giant rotating wing mast that can be canted to weather, which gives MACIF the ability to present the maximum sail area to the wind, this also reduces pressure on the leeward float. There are SAILMON displays in the elliptical cockpit and on the mast.
