This beautiful 152 ft. yacht was designed by Dykstra Naval Architects and was built by Holland Jachtbouw in 2002. She has a very chic look due to her long overhangs and low freeboard. The Windrose of Amsterdam is equipped with an E4 system and 2 SAILMON Model X display for an optimal sailing experience. This classic sailing yacht features state of the art engineering and was built with the best, lightweight materials, shaped for speed. Her water ballast system ensures maximum performance. As can be seen by some of her past racing results, wich include beating VELSHEDA and SHAMROCK V as well as holding the Atlantic record in 2002 and 2005 – reaching a top speed under sail 27 knots and sailing 2925nm in 10.5 days.

We talked with Dirk Jan Hudig about his experiences with SAILMON on board the Windrose of Amsterdam
Has the use of SAILMON improved your sailing experience? If so, how?
”Yes it has a lot! There are two big SAILMON Model X displays positioned on the mast. Both the B&G and SAILMON displays are placed far away from the helmsman, but the SAILMON screens are much bigger and readable with much more information available compared to B&G.”
How would you compare SAILMON displays and processors with other products on the market?
”It works individually from each other. At the moment the Windrose is equipped with NMEA 2000, which is connected to the SAILMON Model E4. This is a much better solution because it acts as the server instead of one of the screens. Before there was only one screen on the mast, which was the ‘master’ screen as well, and if that screen stopped working the whole system went down.
Another positive is that you are able to see the charts and graphic representations of for example wind speed and wind directions, which you can’t do on any other displays.”
